The Pink Piglet Begins

I've been extremely fortunate in my life to have a very creative family. My grandparents, including great grandparents, were all very talented with a paintbrush, and family members walls were donned with their meticulously painted creations. My paternal grandmother loved to sew, crochet, and tat. I remember her waiting for my Grandpa to go out back to feed the cows so that she could sit down and work on her latest project. The moment she heard his John Deere coming back in the main yard, she'd quickly put it away and go back to doing her daily tasks. Whenever he would be gone for longer periods of time, like going to get feed when my brother was with us, sometimes Grandma would stay with us and we could all work on something together, or watch a crafting tv show that used to come on (I can't remember the name). She taught me to crochet, and she helped me make a small tabletop quilted piece that is actually sitting on top of a dresser in my mom's home. When she and my aunt tried to teach me to use a sewing machine, it was frustrating. I couldn't sew in a straight line to save my life. I got irritated with the idea of sewing, and only ever revisited it about 5 or 6 years ago when the same aunt helped me start a real quilt. I never finished it with her, but I picked it back up about a year ago when I inherited my Grandma's old sewing machine because I wanted to finally finish it.

And so it began. I picked up the quilt pieces I never finished, and I began to sew. I still had a hard time sewing in a straight line, but I kept trying and kept trying, and I finally got the hang of it. Sewing isn't something you can pick up and be great at. Well, at least it wasn't for me. Maybe you're a sewing prodigal and get it the first time, in which I say, good for you! But if you're like me, it's going to take a bit of patience and a lot of practice. I knew the basics, as in I knew the sewing machine would make stitches...bahahahaha....but I had no idea how to thread it or even thread a bobbin and all of that stuff. Enter YouTube. If you haven't discovered YouTube (which is hard to believe), then you really should check it out. I watch YouTube videos for just about everything, including how to figure out how to thread my machine, cooking, and any hairstyles I want to try.

I've had a lot of people tell me I should open an Etsy shop and sell what I make on there, but I'm not ready for that kind of commitment yet. So instead, here we are. This blog will be mainly where I post what I've made, not just on the sewing machine but in the kitchen as well. Who knows, it may grow from there. So, if you've been itching to do some new things, join me! Give it a whirl 😉
